Fabulous Felines Join Their Hoomans for ‘80s-Style Family Photos That Get Better the Longer You Look

If you're going to take family photos with your cat, you might as well make them as cheesy as pawsible.

We're talking matching outfits, dated backdrops, awkward poses, and enough '80s department store energy to make you wonder if these were pulled out of an old family photo album. Except instead of posing with the kids, these proud cat pawrents brought along their furry children.

And somehow, the cats make these photos even better.

A kitty sitting stiffly on someone's lap already has the perfect awkward family portrait energy. Add in a few matching sweaters and a serious stare into the distance, and suddenly you've got a masterpiece worthy of the living room wall.

Some of these hoomans really went all in, too. There's big hair, denim, cheesy smiles, and poses that haven't been seen since your parents last visited the mall portrait studio. Even the cats look like they've been transported back a few decades. Although judging by a few of their faces, they're not entirely sure how they got there.

We also need to appreciate the kitties who actually sat still long enough to make these happen. Anyone who has ever tried taking a nice photo of their cat knows you usually have about three seconds before they look away, walk off, or suddenly decide it's bath time. Getting one to pose for a full-on family portrait deserves some serious credit.

The finished photos are equal parts adorable, awkward, and completely ridiculous in the best way. They're exactly the kind of pictures you print instead of leaving buried somewhere in your camera roll.

So fluff up your hair and pull on your finest matching sweater, because these cats and their hoomans are taking family photos back to the '80s.

  • We know this is supposed to be a family portrait, but let’s be real, the cat is absolutely stealing the show here. Everyone else looks great, of course, but our eyes immediately went straight to the furry little star of the photo. That face, that pose, that purrfectly serious expression? They knew exactly what they were doing. The hoomans may have booked the photoshoot, but this kitty clearly decided the final portrait was going to be all about them.

  • All family holiday photos should include the cat. They’re part of the family too, so why should they get left out when everyone gathers for the annual awkward picture? Put them in a festive sweater, scoop them up, and hope they cooperate long enough to get one decent shot. Even if they spend the entire time trying to escape, we still want them in there. Years later, we guarantee the kitty will be everyone’s favorite part of the photo anyway.

  • Nothing screams ‘80s glamour quite like posing in front of a backdrop covered in space lasers. We’re not entirely sure what outer space has to do with a family portrait, but that’s part of the magic. Throw in a cat and suddenly it all makes perfect sense. This kitty looks ready to blast off into another dimension with their hooman, preferably one where every portrait comes with dramatic lighting, questionable special effects, and enough lasers to make the entire photo absolutely unforgettable.
